Matthew 6:28-30
28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
We are in the Sermon on the Mount as recorded in the Gospel of Matthew, chapter six. Jesus is teaching everyone to not worry or be anxious. Jesus says look at the wild birds flying free. People are of more value than birds. Right? GOD sees to it they survive and even thrive!
Next, in today's verses, Jesus compares the beauty of wildflowers with our own FASHION. "And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was NOT arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall He not MUCH MORE clothe you, O ye of little faith?"
Picture the spring time hill-sides of Galilee; covered with golden amaryllis, crimson tulips, and anemones of all shades from scarlet to white, buttercups, dandelions and daisies! Jesus tells us to “consider” them. Not merely look at them but to study them and appreciate them.
We need to marvel at the birds and the flowers! GOD has provided exceedingly and abundantly! When Jesus said "O ye of little faith?" He was not saying people were faithless or unbelieving. (All though many are.) Jesus was pointing out that our trust is weak. We have moments of anxiety and worry. Jesus recommends FAITH. We can rely on the love and wisdom of GOD our Father in heaven!
