Everything We Need...

The Lord's Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

This is the prayer that Jesus taught to His Disciples. It is the model prayer. This past week we studied a section of the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus is teaching us to NOT worry or be anxious. We asked ourselves how much of your prayer live is devoted to praying for food, fashion and other things that you NEED? How often are your prayers motivated by worry and anxiety?? Do we not understand the promises of God??? Our heavenly Father knows that we have needs. Our heavenly Father is far better acquainted with all our wants than we know ourselves! We can rely on the love and wisdom of GOD our Father in heaven!

And, it's great to use the Lord's Prayer as our guide.
Without this guide we spend much of our prayer time in the Forth Petition; "Give us this day our daily bread." which is good and right, BUT, there are six more Petitions to make with God:
1st- "Hallowed be Thy name." We need to pray that God’s name kept holy.
2nd- "Thy kingdom come." We need to pray that we will be led by the Holy Ghost to live a godly here and now and there in all eternity.
3rd- "Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven." We need to pray that God’s will is done when He breaks and hinders every evil plan and purpose of the devil, the world, and our sinful nature!
5th- "And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us." We need to pray for the GRACE that God forgives us and do a best to share that GRACE with other that we need to forgive.
6th- "And lead us not into temptation." We need to pray that God would guard and keep us so that the devil, the world, and our sinful nature may not deceive us or mislead us into false belief, despair, and other great shame and vice.
7th- "But deliver us from evil." We need to pray that our Father in heaven would rescue us from every evil of body and soul, possessions and reputation.

We have a lot to pray for. We need not neglect our Forth Petition concerns BUT we also NEED to cover the other six Petitions. We can just pray the Lord's Prayer, it is an outstanding prayer and covers EVERYTHING we NEED! If for some reason that's not enough for you; use the Lord's Prayer as your template. Come up with your own words that covers the seven petitions and you will be praying like an expert in no time.

You can carry this prayer with us all the time, with the APP from the Google Play store or the Apple App store! It is the reference of the official 1986 version of Luther’s Small Catechism. This beautifully designed app makes reading and navigating the Small Catechism easy and convenient.

I will make you

Matthew 4:19&20 "19 And He saith unto them, Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men. 20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed Him." In our "Follow Me" series, we study Jesus calling His disciples in the Gospel of Matthew. By the Sea of Galilee, a thriving fishing hub, Jesus saw Simon and Andrew casting nets as humble fishermen. His disciples were ordinary workers, not wealthy or educated elites. Jesus approached them and said, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men." Remarkably, they immediately left their jobs to follow Him. This brief exchange conveys a profound truth: Jesus says, "I will make you." Only God can transform us to accomplish His purpose. We should often pray, "Help me, God," seeking Jesus' guidance to follow His plan for our lives.

God’s patience

2 Peter 3:9 "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." God did not immediately punish King Solomon when he allowed his foreign wives to build altars for false gods. Despite multiple compromises, God remained patient. Over time, Solomon’s endorsement of idolatry defied God’s covenant, leading to divine judgment, including the loss of the kingdom for his son. Some mistake God’s patience for indifference or inaction, but He follows His plan in His timing. If our nation, culture, church, or we ourselves stray like Solomon, we can repent and return to God’s path. And, should do so sooner than later! Amen!

Romans 6:3&4 "3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." In our studies we are striving to understand God’s love and care. God's unconditional love for His followers, appreciating that we are part of GOD’S family! God is with us from cradle to grave. His divine presence is always giving us purpose and guidance. One of the most important milestones in the life of a Christian is baptism. When we are baptized, an indelible mark is made on our soul. This mark signifies a permanent transformation and dedication of the individual to God. The act of Baptism involves water and the invocation of the Holy Trinity. This ritual is seen as a symbolic washing away of original sin and a new birth into the life of Christ. Baptism is a foundational s...
