Isaiah 56:11&12
"11 Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter.
12 Come ye, say they, I will fetch wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and to morrow shall be as this day, and much more abundant."
We are dipping into the prophecies from the book of Isaiah to get a Biblical prospective on DOGS. Isaiah's insight is wonderful; he is saying that not only are the Jewish people chosen but "others" will be also gathereth!!! The ultimate value of a DOG is his BARK! We want DOGS that BARK; we want a DOG that is active and lives a spirit of instruction and warns us of trouble and sin that is near us. We want a DOG to protect us and keep us from mistakes. We don't want a DOG that sleeps and lies around NOT benefiting his master.
Today's verses highlight the great importance of watchdogs and shepherds; "Yea, they are greedy dogs which CAN NEVER have enough, and they are shepherds that CANNOT understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter." When they are negligent they are are not helpful even in their own sphere of influence.
"Come ye, say they, I will fetch wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and to morrow shall be as this day, and much more abundant." Those with power and influence can be very content with their present situation. People can and do lose their sense of duty. People can become tempted by the luxury and good living their position provides. In this event they loose sight of their real meaning and purpose in life; BARKING and warning others of dangers that are coming near!
