John 21:1-3
"1 After these things Jesus shewed Himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise shewed He Himself.
2 There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of His disciples.
3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing."
We are coming from Isaiah where Christians are soaring "...with wings as EAGLES;" And, from another Old Testament prophet; Habakkuk! He encouraged Isreal to remain faithful and true to the one true GOD! Telling everyone they are about to experience some tough times, "YET I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The LORD God is my strength..." HABAKKUK is foretelling of some of the gravest events people have to face and here he is praising and celebrating our LORD! We need to be more like Habakkuk!
For today's verses we return to the Gospel of John where we join events AFTER Easter morning. The Disciples are at a loss for what to do next. So, many of them go back to what they know best; FISHING! "Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing." They fished ALL NIGHT LONG and caught NOTHING. They feel defeated; the Messiah has come and gone and now they can't even fish! They know how to fish! This was their livelihood!!! Why can't they catch fish tonight???
