the sleepless night

Daniel 6:17-19
17 And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.
18 Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were instruments of musick brought before him: and his sleep went from him.
19 Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions."

The sleepless night.
It's interesting that the Daniel narrative follows King Darius here. The king doesn't eat. He doesn't listen to music. His mind is consumed with worries. He is not able to sleep. Probably restless. Maybe pacing the floor. Likely has all his servants and staff worked up and stressed out! It's a VERY long night.

Daniel's night was not any shorter. He had to understand that, his friend, the king, was bound by law to punish him by casting him into the LION'S den. This is a profound betrayal, Daniel has served the king honorably for decades and this is how he is treated. These LIONS are man eaters. This was not an uncommon form of capital punishment. No doubt the LIONS are hungry and they are ready to pounce on any morsel of meat dropped into their DEN!!! And, Daniel is that morsel. These LION'S are experienced at attacking and ripping a full grown man to pieces! There is no defense for their teeth and claws. These LION'S are the KING of BEASTS!

King Darius' words have to echo in Daniel's mind; "Your GOD will deliver you." Probably it's part of the prayers Daniel says all night long. Daniel is FAITHFUL through all of this! Everything he did was in service to the Lord in a land and culture hostile to him. Daniel's FAITH is SO INCREDIBLE not only does King Darius notice it, the KING of Kings notices it too!

"Then the king arose VERY EARLY in the morning, and went in HASTE unto the den of lions..."

I will make you

Matthew 4:19&20 "19 And He saith unto them, Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men. 20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed Him." In our "Follow Me" series, we study Jesus calling His disciples in the Gospel of Matthew. By the Sea of Galilee, a thriving fishing hub, Jesus saw Simon and Andrew casting nets as humble fishermen. His disciples were ordinary workers, not wealthy or educated elites. Jesus approached them and said, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men." Remarkably, they immediately left their jobs to follow Him. This brief exchange conveys a profound truth: Jesus says, "I will make you." Only God can transform us to accomplish His purpose. We should often pray, "Help me, God," seeking Jesus' guidance to follow His plan for our lives.

it's over

Revelation 7:17 "For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes." Heaven. After the "great tribulation." After we are purified and justified through the atoning work of Christ. We will stand in front of the Lamb and wave palm branches in celebration of victory over death and sin.  We will be with GOD. God will protect us and provide for us. We will be caught up in worshiping Him day and night. Our generous GOD keeps giving even in the afterlife. The tribulations of life will be over. "and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes." Your days of crying will be OVER! Your loneliness will be OVER!  Your failure will be OVER! Your sickness will be OVER! Your suffering will be OVER! Your cup will be OVERFLOWING with HIS mercy and love. Nothing can separate you from the Love of Christ. Keep your "eyes" on Jesus. He is your key. ...

you are witnesses

Luke 24:48 "And ye are witnesses of these things." In Epic Fails—God Prevails, we see people make big mistakes—yet God uses our shortcomings to advance His plan. God is Amazing! Peter did much right (even walking on water!) but epically failed by denying Jesus. Post-resurrection, Jesus showed how His suffering, death, and resurrection fulfilled Old Testament prophecies. Despite years with Him and deep Scripture knowledge, the disciples couldn't grasp it alone—they needed divine help. True understanding requires God's intervention; human insight falls short. At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit ignited Peter's faith; he preached, and thousands believed. On Damascus road, Jesus converted Paul, who evangelized and wrote most of the New Testament. You and I can be used in God’s plan too. With Jesus’ love inside, we are empowered to stand for Him. Like empowered Peter! Like empowered Paul! Like countless empowered saints! Like the empowered you! Today's verse affirms the ...
