Rooster Crows!

Mark 14:66-68
"66 And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest:
67 And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.
68 But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew."

The center of "sin" and the center of "pride" is "I."
We are ALL guilty of PRIDE.
PRIDE tempts us to be self-sufficient rather than trusting God. PRIDE lets us have a high opinion of our own dignity, importance, merit, strength and superiority. Especially for those of us that have something to be PROUD of, like Peter.

When Jesus tried to prepare His Disciples for the night of terror after Judas betrayed Him; Peter said "NOT ME!" Peter proclaimed that he would stand up to the authorities and never leave Jesus's side. Peter is the Rock! He is the foundation that the church will be built upon! Peter is the strongest!! Peter is the BEST!!! And, the strength of Peter's conviction even inspired his fellow Disciples; "Likewise also SAID THEY ALL." They have come through a lot together. Feeding the multitude. Healing the sick. Calming the storm. Raising the dead. Nothing is going to tear them apart! They are Jesus followers and they are PROUD.

Only when the moment of truth came, things unfolded just the way Jesus described. They all lost confidence and hope. They FLED the scene in all directions. Fearing the worst; that they too will be arrested and subjected to the punishment, pain and possibly death at the hands of the authorities. They are hiding.

PROUD Peter is lurking in the shadows of the night. Inching his way to the palace where the religious leaders have taken Jesus. "...there cometh one of the maids of the high priest: And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And THOU also wast WITH JESUS of Nazareth." Surely Peter's heart is racing, he has to try to control his breath and not look to nervous. He knows he is about to be arrested and brutally taken into custody by the temple guards or worse yet The Romans!

"But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the COCK CREW." What can Peter do? He is all alone behind enemy lines. He has to come up with a plan. He has to do something! But, what can he do? He's just one man!! If they find him here and now; they will KILL him!!!

Elisha’s example

1 Kings 19:19-21 "19 So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him. 20 And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee? 21 And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him." In Luke 9:54, after James and John sought to call down fire on a Samaritan village that rejected Jesus, they referenced Elijah, saying, “even as Elias did?” Jesus then taught three lessons about rejection: 1- Discipleship demands sacrifice, embracing hardship and forgoing earthly security. 2- Following Jesus requires immediate, un...

I will make you

Matthew 4:19&20 "19 And He saith unto them, Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men. 20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed Him." In our "Follow Me" series, we study Jesus calling His disciples in the Gospel of Matthew. By the Sea of Galilee, a thriving fishing hub, Jesus saw Simon and Andrew casting nets as humble fishermen. His disciples were ordinary workers, not wealthy or educated elites. Jesus approached them and said, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men." Remarkably, they immediately left their jobs to follow Him. This brief exchange conveys a profound truth: Jesus says, "I will make you." Only God can transform us to accomplish His purpose. We should often pray, "Help me, God," seeking Jesus' guidance to follow His plan for our lives.

it's over

Revelation 7:17 "For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes." Heaven. After the "great tribulation." After we are purified and justified through the atoning work of Christ. We will stand in front of the Lamb and wave palm branches in celebration of victory over death and sin.  We will be with GOD. God will protect us and provide for us. We will be caught up in worshiping Him day and night. Our generous GOD keeps giving even in the afterlife. The tribulations of life will be over. "and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes." Your days of crying will be OVER! Your loneliness will be OVER!  Your failure will be OVER! Your sickness will be OVER! Your suffering will be OVER! Your cup will be OVERFLOWING with HIS mercy and love. Nothing can separate you from the Love of Christ. Keep your "eyes" on Jesus. He is your key. ...
