You Might Believe

John 14:25-29
"25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, Whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved Me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for My Father is greater than I.
29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe."

Some of Jesus's FINAL words to His Disciples. In them the wonderful promise to send His Spirit, The Comforter, The Holy Ghost! For His Disciples and for His believers there will be tough times ahead. They will and we will need to "KEEP MY WORDS." as Jesus said. Hold on to, cherish and obey His words. All of them Old Testament and New!

In today's verses we read how the Holy Ghost will help the Disciples as they write the New Testament; "He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your REMEMBRANCE, whatsoever I have said unto you." The words that are recorded in the New Testament are from the Holy Ghost's guidance! These words that you and I read from the Holy Scriptures!

We need reminders as life gets in the way. The world is TERRIBLE at giving peace. The world robs, steals, kills, destroys and wars. The world is filled with envy, jealously, malice and hate. People need a place to gather as God's people, study His word, praise His name. We need to remember Jesus's words; "My peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

In this moment that is recorded we see the Son of God's journey through this world in human flesh about to come to it's SUBLIME END. Then Jesus returns to heaven; "REJOICE, because I said, I go unto the Father:" BUT, His Disciples journey is about to get more challenging. As challenging as any, they will all be persecuted and martyred. Out of this violence and struggle FAITH is born into our world. It is new, it is different and it is more precious than realize today. Jesus's mission and sacrifice was not only for our salvation but also our FAITH! As Jesus said; "And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, YE MIGHT BELIEVE."

Faith Misused:
Why Christianity Is Not Just Another Religion
(This book makes the case that the word FAITH did not exist before Jesus Christ's incarnation! It's a compelling case and futher demonstrates another way that the Son of God changed our world FOREVER!)
"Today, we hear the word "FAITH" used in a myriad of ways. "FAITH" is placed in the stock market. Spiritual practices of any kind are called "FAITHS". Dr. Alvin J. Schmidt argues that this use of the word would be entirely unfamiliar to the New Testament Christians. For them and in the entirety of the New Testament Scriptures, FAITH is an EXCLUSIVELY Christian word, implying true knowledge of and trust in the incarnate Christ."

"As Dr. Schmidt writes, we need to aspire to being people of THE FAITH. Not just any will do. In FAITH MISUSED, you’ll find his case for a Christian reclaiming of the word “FAITH” from its ambiguous modern uses."

"The Author; Rev. Dr. Alvin J. Schmidt is professor of sociology emeritus at Illinois College in Jacksonville, Illinois, and a fellow of the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion. He is the author of numerous books, including the award-winning Fraternal Organizations (1980), How Christianity Changed the World (2004; now in eight different languages), and Hallmarks of Lutheran Identity (2017)."

Elisha’s example

1 Kings 19:19-21 "19 So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him. 20 And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee? 21 And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him." In Luke 9:54, after James and John sought to call down fire on a Samaritan village that rejected Jesus, they referenced Elijah, saying, “even as Elias did?” Jesus then taught three lessons about rejection: 1- Discipleship demands sacrifice, embracing hardship and forgoing earthly security. 2- Following Jesus requires immediate, un...

I will make you

Matthew 4:19&20 "19 And He saith unto them, Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men. 20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed Him." In our "Follow Me" series, we study Jesus calling His disciples in the Gospel of Matthew. By the Sea of Galilee, a thriving fishing hub, Jesus saw Simon and Andrew casting nets as humble fishermen. His disciples were ordinary workers, not wealthy or educated elites. Jesus approached them and said, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men." Remarkably, they immediately left their jobs to follow Him. This brief exchange conveys a profound truth: Jesus says, "I will make you." Only God can transform us to accomplish His purpose. We should often pray, "Help me, God," seeking Jesus' guidance to follow His plan for our lives.

God’s patience

2 Peter 3:9 "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." God did not immediately punish King Solomon when he allowed his foreign wives to build altars for false gods. Despite multiple compromises, God remained patient. Over time, Solomon’s endorsement of idolatry defied God’s covenant, leading to divine judgment, including the loss of the kingdom for his son. Some mistake God’s patience for indifference or inaction, but He follows His plan in His timing. If our nation, culture, church, or we ourselves stray like Solomon, we can repent and return to God’s path. And, should do so sooner than later! Amen!
