1 Thessalonians 2:11 & 12
"11 As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children,
12 That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory."
Joseph was faithful to GOD, a good husband to Mary and the best Dad to Jesus. The challenges he faced were GREAT. He had to stand up for his wife in front of disbelieving family and friends. He had to protect the Son of God from the bloodthirsty Harrod. And, many challenges we can only imagine.
Joseph was a humble man from a modest family. A man who worked with his hands, labored and provided for his family. He is an inspiration to us all. His loyalty and dedication is admirable. Also his example of growing closer to GOD in times of difficulty. When we are in similar situations we can be like Joseph; wait and pray, don't make rash decisions. Make faithful decisions. We can ask; "what would Jesus do?" Turn to the Holy Scriptures and our faithful family and friends.
This example and theme of the faithful father is echoed throughout the Holy Bible. In today's verses from the Apostle Paul's first letter to the Thessalonians, chapter two, verses eleven and twelve we read it clearly written; "As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, AS A FATHER doth his children, That ye would walk worthy of God, WHO hath CALLED YOU unto his kingdom and glory." The Apostles strove to be father like to the people in the churches they started. They strongly encouraged people, sought to create a place and a situation that offered relief from pain or stress. And, of course teaching the Gospel message that aroused strong emotions in the believers. While all this is for the GLORY of GOD, note the part of the verse that says; "God, WHO hath CALLED YOU." It's all God's work. It's not mine. It's not yours. It's not even Paul's or Joseph's. It's GOD who has called us and given us His gift of FAITH!!! We can only strive to be "worthy."
Amen.
