Matthew 2:5-7
"5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared."
Herod is "troubled;" so everyone is TROUBLED.
He DEMANDED of chief priests, scribes and everyone else WHERE Christ should be born. In today's verses we read their answer; "Bethlehem of Judaea." This is the prophecy of the prophet Micah 5:2. The words in Micah are somewhat different. We believe Matthew reported the words the priests and scribes delivered to king Herod. There would have been a lot of witnesses in the king's court. They would be there out of curiosity of who the wise men were AND now there is intrigue about the "mystery" birth!?!?
The not knowing about this BABY is a very compelling part. While we KNOW about the Baby, we find our own mysteries. We like to think of there being THREE wise men, but, we do not know. There were three gifts listed so we assume there was a representative for each gift. There could have been more than three wise men? What if there were more than three gifts? What would the forth gift have been??? Pastor Bobby answered this question in the Sermon linked below.
The good parts of these daily devotionals are inspired by the sermon at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg Texas. You can watch it by following this link... https://youtu.be/5AIlvIXGRmQ
