Philippians 2:8 & 9
"8 And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name:"
This week we are studying Fall On Your Knees. Like the eyewitnesses to the death and resurrection caused many of them to worship Jesus! They fell on their knees. You and me, we are not used to getting on our knees. It's not something we normally do. In the old days people DID have to kneel and bow at the feet of others. It was a sign of submission, honor, and respect. Especially if that other person was a king or queen.
AND! We often read in Holy Scriptures that a person will "worship" God. The Hebrew word for “worship” literally means “to bow down.” Something that would have been done from the kneeling position. Making kneeling before God a very important practice coming to us from the pages of our Holy Bible!
We have turned to the letter to the Philippians. Written by the Apostle Paul to express gratitude and appreciation for the Philippans. Paul encourages them to continue living faithfully. In this effort Paul points the Philippians to Jesus Christ, to model themselves after our Lord and Savior. Jesus did NOT hold on to His God status too tightly. He was willing to humiliate Himself and become one of us...
Today's verses; "And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the CROSS." Jesus's death and resurrection which gives us our salvation! This is mind blowing; beyond a record catch of fish, beyond healing and feeding, and even beyond raising Lazarus from the dead! This great moment alone is reason enough to FALL ON OUR KNEES!
This is SO GREAT that even GOD the Father praises Jesus; "Wherefore God also hath HIGHLY EXALTED Him, and given Him a name which is ABOVE EVERY name:" King of Kings. LORD of Lord's. Jesus is not only God and is the focus of all creation!
