Romans 6:1-3
"1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death?"
Yesterday's verse from the letter to the Romans, chapter three, verse twenty three; "For ALL have sinned, and come SHORT of the GLORY of GOD;" puts us in the right frame of mind for this week's study; FALL IN LINE. We really want to learn how to
FALL IN LINE with GOD'S rules, regulations and laws. GOD is Holy and Generous, His plan, all along, was for the Son of God to come to us and be sacrificed for our sins.
We continue to read from the letter to the Romans written by the Apostle Paul from the city of Corinth. Before Paul has ever visited Rome and before the Emperor Nero losses his mind and persecutes the Christians. This letter from Paul, inspired by the Holy Ghost, clearly communicates God’s righteousness in God's plan for salvation. This letter is the clearest and most systematic presentation of Christian doctrine in all the Holy Bible. Paul points out that our journey with God does NOT END with our salvation but it continues as each of us is SANCTIFIED, or made holy ourselves!
We pick up in chapter six, verse one; "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?" Paul sets up the idea he may have heard others espoused; that bigger sins and more sins will make GOD'S GRACE bigger and more! And, Paul answered right away; "GOD FORBID. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death?" Paul wants His readers to understand that when we were Baptized we wrre given credit for Jesus's work on the cross! The glory and blessings that Jesus earned the HARD way became ours the EASY way!!!
It's more EPIC!
As we journey to FALL IN LINE we want to cover the basics. We need to go back and refresh our minds by reading the Small Catechism... http://catechism.cph.org/en/introduction.html
