Matthew 2:13
"And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him."
This week we continue our series titled Children of the Heavenly Father. AND! We will continue our focus on our LORD and SAVIOR, the ONLY begotten Son of God! This week we will study an event that took place when Jesus was a baby. For the record of these events we turn to the Gospel of Matthew.
Matthew was born and raised as a Jew. He grew up to become a tax collector. He would have been marginalized by his friends, family and neighbors. Jesus and company took Matthew in. Matthew went on to write his Gospel in Hebrew and later translated it into Greek for a larger audience.
We reenter the narrative right after the Wisemen came to pay homage to the Messiah. The evil King Herod saw this as an opportunity to eliminate the threat to his rule. Herod sent soldiers to kill ALL BABIES under two years old. Imagine the horror. Very evil plans.
Today's verse from chapter two, verse thirteen, GOD warns Joseph; "And when they were departed, behold, The Angel of The Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young Child and His mother, and FLEE into EGYPT, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to DESTROY HIM." The Holy Family is running for their lives.
