1 Kings 3:19-21
"19 And this woman's child died in the night; because she overlaid it.
20 And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thine handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.
21 And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead: but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I did bear."
This is a real life HORROR story; a mother smothering her baby in her sleep! This kind of things happens all too often. Just Google; "mother who smothered her baby" and you will see a long list of headlines from around the world! This is a tragedy that is all TOO common, TO THIS DAY. 😞
To make matters WORSE; this poor mother doesn't bare the pain and suffering herself, she spreads it to her roommate, in today's verses; "And she arose at midnight, and TOOK my son from beside me... and laid her dead child in my bosom." The old switcheroo. This mother adds the emphasis; "...behold, it WAS NOT my son..." What will King Solomon do???
There were no witnesses to what transpired between these two women. Both were mother's to new born babies. And, both are experiencing a horrible trajady. It will take all the wisdom King Solomon has to judge this case. God granted Solomon's request for one gift; WISDOM. The book of Proverbs, chapter nine, verse ten; "The fear of the LORD is the BEGINNING of WISDOM: and the knowledge of the HOLY is understanding." This is something Solomon had that these two women are lacking. They come before King Solomon for his judgement; he is acting like the Supreme Court.
