1 Samuel 17:43-46
"43 And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
44 And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.
45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
46 This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel."
NO ONE in Israel dared take on GOLIATH. They were all very AFRAID. David arrives to remind everyone about the power of God! Today's verses; "Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee IN THE NAME of THE LORD of hosts, The GOD of the armies of ISRAEL, whom thou hast defied." GOLIATH was not only the enemy of Israel, he was also an enemy of GOD!! GOLIATH "defied" God. GOLIATH openly resisted and refuse to obey God. God will use young David to show the Israelites, the Philistines and all of history His power and His protection.
And, young David is confident in God and he has assurance of His help, retuning to the verses; "This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that ALL THE EARTH MAY KNOW that there is a God in Israel."
Hear the echo reverberate here; all the earth will know and celebrate David's victory over the giant Goliath! And, when the King of Kings defeats sin and death at the cross all the earth will know of that too! We will all share in this victory as we return to our heavenly home.
