Genesis 37:9-11
"9 And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me.
10 And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?
11 And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying."
This week we in in Genesis, chapter thirty-seven, when Joseph is tormenting his older brothers. Their father Israel favored Joseph in many ways. The most obvious was the Coat of Many Colors. Especially made for Joseph. When he wore it; he was FLAUNTING his father's favoritism. This intensified the brother's HATE. And, their HATE did not slow down or deter Joseph...
In yesterday's verses Joseph aggravated them with his dream of wheat sheaves; "And they HATED him yet the MORE for his dreams, and for his words." Possibly, Joseph's brothers knew that Israel favored Joseph and would indeed be the recipient of the inheritance. Jealousy, greed, envy, pride and anger are all coming together in a toxic combination in Joseph's brothers.
In today's verses, Joseph takes it further with his dream of the stars! "And his brethren ENVIED him; but his father observed the saying." All of these people are "Children of The Heavenly Father." Created with inalienable rights and they are exercising their freedom of speech and freedom to act. They are doing what they want.
Like the son's of Israel; we can do what we want… even when it's wrong. Sinful and unhealthy as we might be. We are free to do so. And, we do. We misuse or FREEDOM. We are ALL guilty.
