Ezekiel 17:22 & 23
"22 Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will also take of the highest branch of the high cedar, and will set it; I will crop off from the top of his young twigs a tender one, and will plant it upon an high mountain and eminent:
23 In the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it: and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar: and under it shall dwell all fowl of every wing; in the shadow of the branches thereof shall they dwell."
We were in chapter four of the Gospel of Mark; we learned that Jesus used many parables to teach people and we fear MANY of them were NOT recorded! Two that were recorded were the CAST SEED, explaining how the Gospel is spread, and the tiny MUSTARD SEED that grows into a giant tree, explaining how the Kingdom of GOD develops. Both are VERY important lessons from Jesus Christ to His followers.
Today we turn to the prophecy of Ezekiel written some six HUNDRED years before Jesus' ministry recorded in the Gospels. Here we read of another GREAT tree that will grow and have branches that will serve as shelter for "under it shall dwell ALL FOWL of every wing..." This is GOD'S church with it's many branches providing a home for all kinds of people. Jesus was the "young twigs a tender one" who like a tiny MUSTARD SEED grew into a GIANT TREE that shelters and provides a dwelling place for so many of us today
